Redact PDF

Draw black rectangles over sensitive text (ID numbers, bank details, names) before sharing. Permanent redaction, privacy-first, in-browser.

Your files are 100% safe. Processing is done in your browser; nothing is uploaded to any server.

How to use this tool & why it helps

Redacting a PDF means permanently hiding sensitive information—ID numbers, account numbers, names, or addresses—by covering it with black rectangles. This tool lets you do that entirely in your browser. Upload your PDF, then for each page draw rectangles over the areas you want to hide. Your file is never sent to a server; PDF.js displays the page and pdf-lib applies the black rectangles and outputs a new PDF.

After uploading, use the page selector if the document has multiple pages. Click and drag on the page to draw a redaction box. You can add several boxes per page. Use Clear this page to remove redactions on the current page only. When you are done, click Apply redactions and download to generate the redacted PDF. The new file will have permanent black areas where you drew; the underlying text is not recoverable from the output.

Redaction is essential for privacy when sharing contracts, forms, or reports. This tool aligns with a privacy-first approach: all processing happens on your device. Use it before sending documents by email or uploading to portals, so that only the intended information is visible.
